I'm so glad that the film didn't turn out like the earlier trailers and hype made it out to be, what with the "MERIDA IS A GIRL WHO ISN'T LIKE OTHER GIRLS BECAUSE SHE LIKES ARROWS AND RIDING, ETC." I blame it on the advertising, but that aside, the film was less about gender and more about personal freedom, the importance of choice for young people, defying tradition, and Merida's relationship with her mother (although probably her relationship with her mother most of all). I'm very glad they decided to go with that as opposed to another hackneyed prince/princess romance.
The film was fun, the soundtrack was lively, and it had plenty of fun
